Navigating TMJ Disorders: Causes and Advanced Injection Treatments

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders can significantly impact your quality of life, making daily activities like eating, speaking, and even smiling a challenge. At The Osteopathic Center, we delve into the complexities of jaw dysfunction, providing innovative, non-surgical injection treatments designed to alleviate pain and restore natural function.

Understanding TMJ Disorders

The TMJ acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. Disorders occur when the articular disc erodes or moves out of alignment, or when the surrounding ligaments suffer from ligamentous laxity. Common triggers include:

  • Bruxism: Chronic teeth grinding or clenching.
  • Arthritis: Degenerative changes in the joint cartilage.
  • Jaw Trauma: Impact injuries that displace the joint.
  • Stress: Leading to habitual muscle tension in the masseter muscles.

Advanced Injection Treatments: A Non-Surgical Path

In our commitment to cutting-edge care, we focus on regenerative therapies that repair the jaw’s foundation rather than just masking the pain:

  • Prolotherapy: We inject a specialized dextrose solution into the weakened ligaments surrounding the jaw. This triggers a controlled healing response, strengthening the tissues that stabilize the TMJ.
  • ProloGraft®: Building on prolotherapy, ProloGraft® utilizes a unique blend of regenerative components to act as a biological scaffold, promoting the repair of damaged joint tissues.
  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy: By concentrating growth factors from your own blood, PRP reduces synovial inflammation and accelerates the repair of the soft tissues within the jaw joint.
  • Stem Cell Therapy: For advanced degeneration, stem cell therapy offers a potent solution to rejuvenate cartilage and repair significant structural damage.
