Understanding Mercury Toxicity

Mercury toxicity can affect anyone exposed to mercury in their environment or diet. This guide provides insights into recognizing symptoms, undergoing testing, and receiving effective treatment for mercury toxicity.

Mercury is a toxic element found in various forms:

Elemental Mercury:

Thermometers, electrical switches, fluorescent lightbulbs, dental fillings.
Coughing, trouble breathing, metallic taste, nausea or vomiting, bleeding or swollen gums.

Inorganic Mercury:

Batteries, certain disinfectants, chemistry labs.
Burning sensation in the stomach or throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, blood in vomit or stool, changes in urine color.

Organic Mercury:

Coal fumes, fish containing methylmercury, older antiseptics.
Symptoms from long-term exposure: Numbness, dull pain, tremors, unsteady walk, double or blurry vision, memory loss, seizures, sleep disturbance, irritability.

Severe effects, including brain damage in developing fetuses.

Understanding these sources and symptoms helps in managing and preventing mercury toxicity effectively.

Testing for Mercury Toxicity

At The Osteopathic Center, we use advanced testing methods to diagnose mercury toxicity:
Including CBC, CMP, UA and a mercury-specific test to measure the mercury levels in bloodstream
To identify mercury stored in tissues for a comprehensive diagnosis.
The Mercury Tri-Test is the only clinical test that utilizes blood, hair, and urine to measure excretion abilities and exposure of inorganic and methyl mercury.
Methylation helps your body neutralize toxins. Mutations in the MTHFR can hinder this process, preventing natural detoxification.
