Get your hair back

The cure for thinning and losing of hair may already be in your body. See how PRP can help stimulate hair-growth without surgery or drugs.

Here at the Osteopathic Center we know how devastating hair loss can be to your image and self-esteem. We are happy to offer PRP or platelet rich plasma treatments to help you combat hair loss and get a full head of hair back. Contrary to popular belief, hair loss is not strictly a male disease. Approximately 40% of the 60 million people across the U.S. who suffer from hair loss are women. Even women who are experiencing hair thinning/loss due to hormonal imbalance post childbirth are finding hope with this treatment.

Your own blood cells carry the key for stimulating your scalp without drugs or painful surgeries.

By releasing a variety of proteins, steroids, hormones, and cytokines, PRP has been known to successfully repair bone and soft tissue. These very healing capabilities can now be replicated with our hair follicles. Recently, PRP has even been integrated into existing hair transplant surgery as both a medium for graft storage and as a growth and survival treatment for the new grafts. Do not suffer in silence. Schedule your appointment today and get your confidence back!

How Does PRP Thicken Hair?

PRP injections greatly increase the blood circulation in the hair follicles delivering nutrients making them stronger, healthier and more active. These more active hair follicles result in the growth of hair that is coarse, resilient, and abundant.  In clinical trials, PRP injections have shown to provide better, longer-lasting results than drugs such as Minoxidil for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, or so-called “male pattern baldness.” As with any medical procedure, individual results will vary, but we have gotten very good results with PRP and thinning hair. PRP is safe, effective, and has little or no known side effects.

How is the procedure done?

PRP begins with blood routinely drawn in our office as it would for any other traditional medical procedure. The blood is then specifically prepared, spun in a centrifuge, which separates the platelets in the sample. In a closed, sterile system, they are then concentrated to three times their normal blood value, and eliminated of granulocytes (which are known to hurt tissue regeneration). In some cases, anesthesia is administered to the nerves in the scalp for pain. The highly-concentrated PRP is then injected, and the patient’s scalp is sanitized. Patients can drive themselves home immediately after the procedure because no sedation or medications are necessary during the procedure.

Since PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth, it can be done preoperatively, intraoperatively, or post-operatively. Some patients choose to have PRP performed every three (3) to four (4) months as early data suggests regular or semi annual PRP treatments are the most effective.
