Alternative Medicine And You

which alternative medicine is best?

Many people today are in search of alternative medicine to take the place of the more traditional healthcare model. More and more people are looking for ways to avoid expensive surgeries, painful recovery times, and costly drugs that come with unwanted side effects. Many people simply want more holistic treatment options.

We’re talking about the use of proper nutrition, including absorbable minerals and vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, polyphenols, and herbs. This approach also encompasses the use of our own stem cells and other regenerative injections to promote restorative action within our bodies. We’re talking about procedures and therapies that have been tested and proven effective; the science is there and it is sound. This is what we do at the Osteopathic Center.

It seems odd to many of us that much of what we do is called “alternative medicine.” Did you know that homeopathy was the prevailing form of medicine in the United States until the early 1900s? Conventional doctors (allopaths) were often called quacks because they used toxic substances like mercury and arsenic. Then folks learned they could make an awful lot of money patenting a drug. The pharmaceutical approach is a very profitable business model for many companies. This approach is primarily concerned with disease management — the making of a diagnosis and treatment of symptoms. To be sure, there is a time and a place for drugs and surgeries, but most drug therapies do not “fix” the underlying causes of illness. Most prescription drugs either poison enzymes or block important receptors in the body.

Many of us “alternative medicine doctors” were traditionally trained. Then at some point, we got frustrated with the shortcomings of traditional practice. We weren’t seeing enough success stories so we reached out for more knowledge, more diverse techniques, more natural options. An alt med doctor, for example, should be able to explain the difference between synthetic and bioidentical hormones. Good alt med doctors see symptoms as signs pointing to dysfunctions that are pleading to be corrected. We work toward the creation of health through solutions that respect the body’s innate ability to heal when given the necessary resources.

The traditional healthcare model has its place, but we invite you to expand your thinking and consult with us at the Osteopathic Center to see if we can provide a natural, long-lasting option to that which ails you.
